Emma Watson

Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris, France, to British parents, Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. They relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five years old and went to the Dragon School. From the age of six, Emma knew that she would like to become an actress and for a couple of years she was trained at the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts, a part-time theater school where she was taught singing, dancing and acting. She was a stagecoach actress and performed as the lead in several Stagecoach productions. Casting began in 1999 for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone 2001, the film adaptation by J.K. Rowling's bestselling book. Casting agents found Emma through her Oxford theater teacher. After eight consecutive auditions, David Heyman revealed to Emma and Rupert Grint (other applicants), that they had been selected to play Hermione Gringer, Harry Potter, and Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance on the screen came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It was also the most popular film of 2001 in terms both of its opening-day and weekend take-homes. Critics praised the film and the performances of three leading young actors. The highly distributed British newspaper, 'The Daily Telegraph', called her performance "admirable". In the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in the film. She also won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in the Film. Film. Emma was among the most famous actors after the success of the film. Hermione Granger remained her role for nearly ten years in the Harry Potter films. Emma received two Critics' Choice Award nominations from the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
